I was introduced to myofunctional therapy during the first year of my dental hygiene career. At that time, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in which I could work closely with patients who care about their whole body health.
Through a couple years of research and as I grew as a dental hygienist I found a mentorship program where I intensively trained with Sarah Horsnby, RDH, Myofunctional Therapist. Following the training program, Sarah hired me as an associate with her business Faceology. In 2018, Sarah promoted me to her lead therapist taking on more patients and leadership roles. I am a Myofunctional Therapy Advisor through Faceology’s MatchMaker program to mentor new myofunctional therapists. I am also a MyoMentor Educator and lead study groups for our MyoMentor students and graduates. My other training has with The Breathe Institute and Dr. Soroush Zaghi (leader in research and the functional frenuloplasty) in Los Angeles as well as taken courses from Richard Baxter (author of Tongue-Tied and leader in the field), Fast and Functional TMJ training with Tim King and Sarah Beach, and I am a Munchee Educator with Myo Munchee based out of Australia.
Today, I am a Partner Therapist through Faceology and continue to see patients worldwide. It is amazing to work with people from all backgrounds and venture into an area of healthcare that isn’t well known or recognized by most people. I also opened NW Myofunctional Therapy and see patients in the Portland, Oregon area for two years before fully integrating my practice online. I work closely with some amazing local orthodontists and patients who I meet in my daily dental hygiene practice. I have learned that most that most dentists, pediatricians, orthodontists, and ENTs do not fully understand myofunctional therapy because most were simply never trained in this topic as part of their medical or dental education. It is amazing to see people’s health transform in front of your eyes over the course of treatment. I believe in the whole-body approach to health that recognizes how the mouth directly relates to overall health of the body.
My passion has become creating a network of healthcare providers, parents, doctors, and others in the dental industry to see how we can make a difference in the lives of adults and children with oral and breathing health problems. Developing my myofunctional therapy practice has become my passion and I can’t wait for it to continue to grow in the Portland area as well as reaching patients around the world meeting via Zoom. I plan to move forward as an entrepreneur and advocate in the field of applied myofunctional sciences.
I grew up in the Pacific Northwest and have been able to call Portland home since the beginning. When I’m not growing my practice, I can generally be found playing softball, volleyball, or playing with my niece and nephews. I also love exploring all the Pacific Northwest has to offer from amazing hikes and breath-taking views to amazing restaurants and craft breweries.
If you would like to learn more about myofunctional therapy and what I do, there’s a wealth of information on my website but if you have questions or would like to contact me personally, I’d love to hear from you.
Thanks for stopping by!
